International Students
More than 100 countries are represented in UConn’s international student population. Prospective international students should begin UConn application procedures one year before intended matriculation. Please review the International Student Fact Sheet for detailed information on applying to UConn.
Applicants should be academically, linguistically and financially prepared for study at the University of Connecticut. Domestic and international students complete the same UConn application for enrollment.
International students are selected for admission based on a review of their academic success in their previous education and scores achieved on the SAT and either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
All international applicants whose first language is not English must submit official TOEFL and/or IELTS scores. For students whose primary language is not English, the TOEFL or IELTS can be a valuable supplement to the application. The minimum score for the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (Internet-based) or a minimum score of 6.5 for IELTS. All academic credentials not written in English must be accompanied by official, certified English translations.
Financial aid, including scholarships and loans, is not available to undergraduate international students. In addition, students on an F-1 visa must submit a financial statement for issuance of an I-20 form. Students who are current visa holders wishing to transfer their visa to the University of Connecticut must submit a visa transfer form. Students must be prepared to verify the following information: country of birth, citizenship, immigration status, date of birth, local international address (outside of the U.S.), ability to meet university expenses, and full name (which must match the names that appear on the passport). |
