UConn Alliance Pathway
At the University of Connecticut we are always in search of ways to identify, recruit, and support talented and deserving students from across the state, which is why we have partnered with Connecticut’s State Department of Education Alliance Schools to launch the UConn Alliance Pathway.
The UConn Alliance Pathway is an initiative to identify high-achieving students attending an Alliance School, many of whom are first-generation to college, from populations underrepresented in higher education and from underserved communities, and provide enhanced support to pave the pathway to enrollment at UConn. School counselors from Alliance Schools are asked to identify their top 10% of seniors using a combination of factors including, but not limited to, rank in class, underserved populations in higher education, or participation in organizations and public service. The UConn Alliance Pathway Recognition Form should then be completed by the school counselor by November 15 in order for UConn to provide application fee waivers for the identified students. Students with a family income qualifying for free/reduced-price meals are automatically entitled to an application fee waiver and may choose this option directly on the application.
High school seniors identified through the UConn Alliance Pathway are eligible to receive enhanced support throughout the application process including access to in-person and virtual application events, FAFSA completion workshops, information on the range of support opportunities available to them throughout the college search process, and details on their potential for admission. Eligible applicants may also receive an application fee waiver.
Participation in the UConn Alliance Pathway is optional to eligible CT Alliance districts.

Alliance Districts and Schools are identified by the CT State Department of Education as schools where significant opportunity for improvement in outcomes is present. No, participation in the UConn Alliance Pathway is optional, and schools may decide if they wish to participate.
No, students from Alliance districts and schools do not receive preference in the application review process for admission consideration. Each application is reviewed through a holistic approach, and selection is based on a comprehensive review of all the information applicants provide on their application, both academic and personal.
