Diversity at UConn

UConn is a community that values the contributions of all of our members and the distinct backgrounds we all represent. Here, we practice compassion, understanding, and respect. We embrace and celebrate you for who you are. Together we committed to supporting each other as Huskies. With more than 90 countries and 43 U.S. states represented in UConn’s student body, your peers will come from different cultures and ethnicities throughout the world. Exchanging intellectual ideas and socializing with students who are different than you is critical in developing a global view and instrumental in learning to approach challenges from a fresh perspective. Health & Safety

Since our main campus in Storrs is essentially its own town, UConn has its own Division of University Safety. Our own police and fire departments, as well as the Office of Emergency Management, ensure a safe and secure campus for all of our students. In the event of an emergency, our campus-wide Alert Notification System informs the community of the situation, its severity, and the appropriate actions to take. All students are encouraged to register their cell phones with our system. Primary medical care, a women’s clinic, nutrition services, counseling and mental health services, physical therapy, and more are offered through Student Health Services on campus. Learn more…

Dining

We take food seriously here. Whether we are winning awards for best vegan recipe, or being ranked as a top institution for gluten-free alternatives, you won’t go hungry at UConn. Our dining units, all of which you can — and should — sample, each have their own atmosphere and menu. Choose to eat in a smaller, more intimate spot or in a popular food court. Here’s the best part — students living on campus have unlimited access to the resident dining units during operating hours. That means grab a coffee at 7 a.m. and your bagel at 8 — it’s OK by us. STEM at UConn

In June 2013, the State of Connecticut continued its tradition of supporting UConn’s success with Next Generation Connecticut, an investment of approximately $1.5 billion. The primary focus is to expand UConn’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs to provide qualified individuals for Connecticut industries. This STEM expansion includes hiring new STEM faculty; increasing enrollment of STEM-focused students; building STEM facilities to house teaching labs for material science, physics, biology, engineering, cognitive science, genomics, and related disciplines; and creating a STEM Scholars community within UConn’s Honors Program.
